Getting to Buttala

Location is in Buttala area

Buttala is the nearest town to the Tree Tops Jungle Lodge location.  This is in the Southeast region of Sri Lanka, in the Province of Uva.

Our rewilded jungle property and ecolodge camp is situated 9 kilometer from the  Buttala town. A drive that takes 20 minutes.  Half of this distance is on a local, sand, side-road. A track used by locals.

The track leads into elephant country.

We recommend that you arrive in the daytime, before the sun sets.  Ideally before 4 pm.

Where about?

Buttala is an off the beaten track destination. And our property is remotely situated 9 kilometer from Buttala town. Certainly not a famous attraction, yet travelling to Buttala is actually really easy.

Buttala is accessed   somewhere in the middle   on the route between these famous tourism hot spots :

  • Arugam Bay – Ella
  • Ella – Kataragama
  • Tangalle – Ella
  • Tissamaharama – Ella
  • Kandy – Galle
  • Nuwara Eliya – Mirissa

Travel By Train to Ella Railway-Station

This adventure way to travel to Buttala is highly recommended, if you are able to plan it.  Take the train To Ella.  A spectacular train journey through the mountains and tea estates could bring you within easy reach of Buttala and Tree Tops Jungle Lodge. Ella railway station is only 45 kilometers from Buttala.  The drive from Ella and down to  Buttala takes one hour.  You can make your own transfer arrangements or ask us to arrange a pick up. Using either a car or a 3-wheeler.
